Terran Buildings

Starcraft was the game where I got to learn 3DS Max. We’d create the buildings and units in 3D, render them to size, and compress that image down to a 128 color pallet and remap unit colors.

My best story on this was creating the Terran Command Center and showing Samwise how I could animate the landing gear retracting, and wouldn’t it be neat if ALL Terran buildings could fly, in an emergency. We both liked the idea, ran over to Pat Wyatt’s office, he liked it, and 4 hours later we were showing the rest of the team the idea, in game.

Game Cinematics

After completing work on the Terran buildings, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the original cinematics department for Blizzard. While there isn’t a scene in the game that isn’t touched by every artist in the department, The following two clips represent scenes that I had a larger part in creating.

I loved the slow-pan scenes from Starwars and put them in every chance I could.

Everyone worked on this one. It’s still my favorite scene of them all. Trying to get space marines to animate and walk correctly was a nightmare, considering the body mesh was nowhere designed to fit an actual human body.
